Roy Henry Vickers is a renowned First Nations artist. I visited his gallery while in Tofino and was completely inspired by his use of saturated colours, and positive and negative space. I was also fortunate enough to have a balcony at the wonderful Wickaninnish Hotel that faced this scene. I photographed it at different times of the day and each picture I took has a very different feel to it. But this one felt right in that it was my little tribute to Mr. Vickers. If you are interested, his website is www.royhenryvickers.com. Check out the painting titled “Captains Cove” to see what I mean. I am so thankful to have been able to see the natural world in a similar way to him, if only for a quick few seconds.
