This mom and her cub are waiting for the sea ice just off Cape Churchill to freeze so they can head out in search of the food that will sustain them over the next year. We humans have created an environment where the sea ice is less available every year – that is a fact. Without it, the bears will perish. Without it, so will we. Rising sea levels due to a warming planet threaten our very existence and the polar is the modern-day canary in the coal mine. Keep an eye on them because as they go, so do we. The bears are looking to us to save them, we created this mess and only we can fix it. There is no longer time for debate, the science is in and we need to act now. Don’t look around, if not you, then who?
