This wasn’t what it looked like. I am not a hunter, nor is the guy with the rifle. We were on a photography trip in South Africa’s Kruger Park and part of one of our excursions was on foot. Despite keeping our distance and being absolutely sure not to upset or threaten any of the animals we encountered, why in the world would we anyways? We still needed our guide to be at the ready. The danger and the exhilaration of seeing wildlife in their natural habitat are closely related, it’s about being in a world that belongs to other species, where they set the ground rules, for the most part. Experiences like these helped shape my respect for the natural world. So grateful to have had the chance.
